SAN FRANCISCO — Munchery, the leading provider of integrated meal preparation and delivery services, announced the appointment of James Beriker as its new President & CEO. Co-Founder and past President & CEO, Tri Tran, will become Munchery's Chief Strategy Officer and will remain on the company's Board of Directors.
"James' outstanding track record and passion for the customer is a perfect match for Munchery," said Tri Tran, Co-Founder of Munchery. "It has been a privilege to lead the company for the past five years, and I look forward to working with James as we continue pursuing our mission to make delicious, healthy, high-quality and cost-effective meals accessible to everyone, everywhere."
While many technology-enabled food companies are focusing on the logistics of picking up pre-packaged orders from restaurants and delivering to customers for a delivery fee, Munchery has built a business on managing the entire process– from developing daily menus, acquiring and engaging with customers, sourcing ingredients from local suppliers, preparing the food in its industrial kitchens, and, finally, to delivering meals to customers at their homes and offices. By managing the entire operation, Munchery has evolved the online food well beyond the "app plus delivery" model and is forging direct relationships with consumers who rely on Munchery for alternatives to fast food and inconsistent restaurant food delivery.
"We are excited to have James on board to lead our new phase of growth," said Shervin Pishevar, Munchery Board Member, Co-Founder, and Managing Director of Sherpa Capital. "James brings a deep understanding of building brands and improving new business lines and product offerings. We have a strong market opportunity to lead this category and I look forward to working with James and his team as we grow the business."
Mr. Beriker has extensive experience in growing, scaling operations and achieving profitability across business-to-business software, advertising technology and consumer Internet businesses. Most recently, he was CEO of Simply Hired, a job search engine operating in 24 markets with 30M monthly unique users, which was acquired by Recruit Holdings, parent company of Indeed.com. Prior to Simply Hired, Beriker was a senior executive at Yahoo!, CEO at Dapper (acquired by Yahoo!), CEO at Efficient Frontier (acquired by Adobe), General Manager at Conversant, and Founder and CEO of Search123 (acquired by Conversant). He has served on the Boards of iSocket (acquired by the Rubicon Project) and Kanjoya (acquired by Ultimate Software) and is currently on the Board of video advertising optimization platform EyeView.
"Munchery has become a leading brand in the multibillion-dollar food market, with a proven model and significant room for growth as consumers look for healthier, more consistent options to fast food and restaurant delivery," said James Beriker. "Their unique end-to-end model, integrating the complex chain of customer acquisition, food production and delivery, and bolstered by having direct relationships with customers, will provide ongoing opportunities to learn and refine the value proposition and drive margin expansion as we grow the business. Tri, Conrad and team have built a robust platform– and I'm honored to lead the company through this next growth phase."
