Lotus Bakeries To Open First US Manufacturing Operation With $50M NC Facility

It’s official: Belgium-based Lotus Bakeries, maker of the popular Biscoff cookies served by airlines, will open its first U.S manufacturing operation in Alamance County, a $50 million facility that will employ 60 by Dec. 31, 2020.

The announcement was made Friday by Gov. Pat McCrory.

The facility to be built by Greensboro-based Samet Corp. at the N.C. Industrial Center in Mebane “is a strong fit for our state’s food manufacturing industry,” MCrory said. “This company recognizes that North Carolina’s convenient location, excellent business climate and well- trained workforce will support its North American growth strategy.”

Lotus Bakeries plans to add bakers, packagers, quality assurance specialists and other employees to its new Mebane facility. The average salary for the jobs is expected to be $35,931. Lotus' facility will add a total annual payroll of $2.1 million.
