HOUSTON, TX – With year-over-year sales of yellow traditional potatoes up sharply, Texas-based MountainKing Potatoes is looking to maintain the positive momentum by rolling out its Holiday Gold Rush promotion for 2016 featuring three of its freshly harvested gold varieties.
MountainKing’s Holiday Gold Rush promotion features the company’s 3# Buttery Bite Golds, 3# Steakhouse Golds and its 5#, 10# and 15# Butter Golds. Participating retailers also will receive oversized end-cap displays with feature ad support, eye-catching full-size bins, half-size grill bins for mix-and-match opportunities and display-ready Tater Town boxes for 3# bags.
The MountainKing holiday promotion comes as year-over-year unit and total dollar sales for yellow traditionals continue to climb. As of the 52-week period ending August 29, 2016, total dollar sales of yellow traditionals were up 13.3% while total unit sales during the same period were up 10.2%
“Golds have been trending up for years,” says John Pope, MountainKing’s vice president sales & marketing. “But Golds represent only seven percent of the market, so there’s plenty of room for growth.”
With the variety’s increasing popularity, Pope is confident retailers will seize on the MountainKing holiday promotion, particularly for the profit-boosting opportunity to simultaneously merchandise various gold package sizes.
“We’ve seen it time and again, retailers who promote different gold package sizes at the same time put a charge into their sales,” says Pope, who adds a 100-store retail group which merchandised different gold package sizes increased its total potato sales by $381,000 over a six-week period.
With their rich, natural buttery flavor, MountainKing Golds require fewer toppings. Plus, the all-natural, non-GMO variety is high in Beta Carotene, Potassium and Vitamin C.
MountainKing Potatoes is one of the world’s largest growers of high-flavor potato varieties and one of North America’s largest producers of Gold potato varieties. Currently, about one million U.S. households enjoy MountainKing products every week.
