Once again, Bob Evans Farms prepared foods division saved the company’s bacon.
In spite of sales at the New Albany-based company’s restaurants slipping more than 4 percent year-over-year, the company posted better than expected earnings per share. The food division’s side-dish business, which makes mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese for retail sales, grew 12.5 percent in the first quarter while its sausage business grew almost 5 percent.
Overall, sales of $306 million failed to meet Wall Street’s predictions and were $15 million below last year’s results mostly due to many restaurants closing in the past year.
