Southern Season, the 41-year-old Chapel Hill-based gourmet food giant, has been sold.
Delaware-based kitchen retailer Calvert Retail has bid $3.5 million – which replaces the only other bid, that of Raleigh-based The Focus Properties.
The offer was officially approved at a court hearing late Friday.
Calvert announced Friday that it has "acquired specific assets of North Carolina-based Southern Season stores." The acquisition includes all of Southern Season's intellectual property, its trade names and website, as well as the Chapel Hill flagship store. Calvert does not plan to make any immediate changes to the Chapel Hill location, according to the announcement.
