Idaho-based WinCo Foods has big plans for North Texas.
The employee-owned grocery chain is building an 830,000-square-foot distribution center in Denton.
That’s big enough to supply between 25 and 35 stores, depending on each store’s volumes, said spokesman Dave Butler.
When the Idaho-based grocer said it was coming into the already crowded Dallas-Fort Worth market, some analysts wondered why. But WinCo said at the time that Dallas-Fort Worth was a fast-growing region and it saw a place in neighborhoods for its version of a supermarket. So far, it’s been gaining market share.
