Pennsylvania Beef Council Board Gets Strategic During Spring Meeting

BEDFORD – The Pennsylvania Beef Council Board of Directors gathered last week in Bedford for their annual spring meeting, taking the opportunity to engage in a strategic planning workshop and align the organization’s efforts with the 2016-2020 Beef Industry Long Range Plan.

Todd Johnson, Vice President of Federation Services for the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA), led nearly 30 board members and beef council staff members through an in-depth overview of the national Beef Industry Long Range Plan (LRP), which was unveiled in January at the 2016 Cattle Industry Convention in San Diego, CA.

The Beef Industry LRP Task Force has been meeting since December 2014, and at the 2015 Cattle Industry Summer Conference, 16 beef industry leaders representing every link in the beef value chain presented a plan for meeting aggressive goals to strengthen the beef industry from 2016-2020.

“The LRP task force set an aggressive objective of increasing the beef demand index 2% annually over the next five years. The task force also challenged the industry to engage the plan and identify how to positively impact the outcomes,” commented Johnson. “I applaud the Pennsylvania Beef Council for focusing on this plan and aligning their efforts toward a common goal.”

Together, the group worked to identify initiatives Pennsylvania is uniquely qualified to impact and that can be built into state programming for the upcoming fiscal year. A strong state-national partnership has been, and continues to be, the foundation for the beef council’s annual marketing plan.

“It is vitally important for us to put time into thoughtful, strategic planning because without a plan, we will lack the vision in getting where we want to go,” noted PBC Board Chairman Steve Paxton. “It is equally important to stay current with our national partners so that, together, we can continue moving our industry forward.”
