Belle Chevre, an Elkmont-based maker of goat cheeses, recently struck a deal with Publix to have all of its products featured in deli cases across the Southeast.
"We were presented to Publix by way of a distributor who shared our product line with them," said Belle Chevre CEO Tasia Malakasis. "Publix then came to us about inclusion in their deli case and we’ve been in talks ever since. We’ve heard from fans for quite some time saying that they have been pressing Publix to include our products and that makes us confident that our chevres are a fit with mainstream consumers."
The company's four styles of breakfast cheese are slated to hit shelves this week and will hopefully provide increased demand for Belle Chevre products, ultimately leading to more jobs, Malakasis said.
