LANSING, MI — State-licensed commercial fishing boats pulled $5.4 million worth of wholesale fish — mostly whitefish — from Michigan's Great Lakes waters in 2015.
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources said the state's commercial fishery yielded nearly 3.4 million pounds of fish last year, a total harvest that's comparable to 2014 but down about 7 percent in gross dockside value.
The dockside value drop was attributed to a 12.5 percent drop in the wholesale price of whitefish, which accounted for more than 66 percent of the state harvest by pounds and 88 percent of the gross value in 2015.
