Montana Mid-Sized Beef Processing Plant Now In Second Phase

There are a number of small meat processing facilities in Montana, but cattle producers in the state want to see a larger facility.

Matt Bitz, program manager of One Montana, a non-profit organization, said a feasibility study was conducted after hearing from producers in the state that they wanted a larger beef processing plant in Montana.

“Producers in Montana wanted a good-sized beef processing facility to finish livestock and have the ability to export beef and bison,” Bitz said, adding the idea for the plant was first proposed in 2012. Based on the producer feedback, the study focused on a medium sized, source verified beef and bison processing plant.
