NYC Restaurants To Post Inspection Grades

Public report cards are coming to the restaurant capital of the world.

The New York City Board of Health voted Tuesday to require all restaurants in the five boroughs to display a placard with a letter grade that summarizes the results of the city’s food-safety inspections.

Restaurantsfrom three-star Michelin hotspots to no-frills neighborhood dinersmust begin posting their inspection grades in July.

The city’s Health Department currently posts restaurant inspection reports on its Web site. Those reports include a numerical score reflecting the severity of violations. Now, patrons will no longer need to go online to assess a restaurant’s sanitary conditions, and a letter grade will be easier to understand than a numerical score, officials said.
