Maytag Dairy Farms Blue Cheese Production, Distribution Put On Hold

NEWTON, Iowa — Maytag Dairy Farms, home of the famous Maytag Raw Milk Blue Cheese, is voluntarily closing temporarily in response to possible listeria contamination.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious infections and sometimes death in youth and frail or elderly people.

Maytag is working with the Department of Agriculture and the FDA on the issue.

Officials told KCCI the company is taking proactive measures.
