Ever wonder exactly what percentage of foodborne illness experienced in the United States is traced back to a produce item? Find out by participating in a special free webinar sponsored by Western Growers to unveil findings from a new report titled Analysis of Produce Related Foodborne Illness Outbreaks, commissioned by the Alliance for Food and Farming. The webinar will be held Monday, March 29 at 1:00 PST.
The Alliance report was commissioned to provide industry with better information about foodborne illness outbreaks by examining the Centers for Disease Control data. While other reports have examined similar data, the Alliances analysis is unique because it identifies where the contamination occurred to provide needed perspective and information for farmers, retail chains, restaurants and consumers
Western Growers is pleased to be able to provide this webinar for all interested produce industry members, said Matt McInerney, Executive Vice President of Western Growers and chairman of the Alliance for Food and Farming. The Alliance is an organization which exists to assist farmers in communicating their commitment to food safety and care for the land. Results of this new report will really help farmers and shippers better understand the causes of produce-associated foodborne illness outbreaks.
McInerney further explained that the information from this new report would be very useful for many organizations in answering questions about foodborne illness from customers, regulators or the media. He noted that as part of the seminar, the Alliance for Food and Farming would also be providing guidelines for use in talking about the report and the general issue of food safety.
McInerney urged all interested members of the produce industry to join the webinar. An e-mail invitation is being sent to a wide group of associations and farming operations, but the session is open to anyone who wishes to join in. For information on registering for this free seminar, please e-mail the Alliance for Food and Farming at info@foodandfarming.info.
