Guatemalan Produce Trade Association (GPTA) Advances Industry Association

A group of major players in the Guatemalan produce import/export deal recently formed the Guatemalan Produce Trade Association (GPTA) with the objective of expanding Guatemala’s position in the industry and marketplace.  The association’s recognized Founding Members are comprised of:

Exporters:                                                                       Importers:

Castro, Estuardo/Coprisa Agroexport       Colescott, Robert/Southern Specialties
Garcia Sr., Tuilio/Royal Produce                 Garcia Jr., Tulio/Miami Agro Import
Sieveking, Ricardo/Transcafe                      Rodriguez, Jay/Crystal Valley Foods

These dedicated professionals have elected two Chairmen to serve a two year Co-Chairman term and represent the Association to collectively and effectively address Guatemala’s industry goals, objectives and initiatives. Current Co-Chairs are Robert Colescott, Southern Specialties and Ricardo Sieveking, Transcafe, S.A.

Since its founding meeting at PMA’s 2015 Fresh Summit in Atlanta, the association has grown by leaps and bounds in membership.  Importers and exporters have identified this assocation as a unique forum to bring value and benefit to the entire trade in and with Guatemala.  The group has created an Action Plan with goals that will be discussed at their first official association meeting to be held in Miami, Florida, on April 28th.

“Our membership is growing nicely and consists of industry trade professionals committed to advancing the Guatemalan trade with U.S. retailers and food service,” said Priscilla Lleras-Bush, GPTA Coordinator.  “Our association will be the unit that will create and develop new strategies, share information regarding the trade and regulatory issues, and act as forerunners for the industry.   We are motivated to positively impact the entire Guatemalan trade by streamlining focus and enhancing the entire  process.”

The association will address subjects that affect growing, exporting, importing, handling and promoting of fresh  produce from Guatemala.
