Another year, another sales record for Glen Hawkins.
The owner of Rock Cave IGA sold 30,007 pounds of his signature “ground hog” sausage — all in the nine days from Jan. 29 to Feb. 6.
Yes, you read that right. Less than a week and a half, more than 30,000 pounds of sausage sold. Sausage as in ground hog, which, other than timing and the owner’s fascination with them, actually has nothing to do with the West Virginia’s winter weather pundit, French Creek Freddie, Pennsylvania’s Punxsutawney Phil or any of their other rodent relatives.
