Lidl, the German discount supermarket chain that is one of the world's largest food retailers, has identified New Jersey as one of the states where it hopes to launch its entry into the United States.
Lidl (pronounced "leedle") has been eyeing this country for its expansion plans for some time, but just recently began soliciting store locations through its U.S. website, lidl.com.
"We're still in the early stages to launch in the U.S.," said Lidl spokesman Will Harwood Monday. While the company has yet to announce any store locations or opening dates, Harwood said, "we are actively pursuing sites in the region and that we will have stores open in the United States no later than 2018."
