Forecasts for the Copper River sockeye salmon run released on Jan. 22 by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game's Cordova office predict a run of 2,560,000 reds, the 11st largest forecast in the last 36 years.
Prince William Sound finfish research biologist Steve Moffitt said that includes the natural production estimate of some 2,280,000 fish and another 290,000 fish from the Gulkana hatchery. The range for all sockeyes is 1,670,000 to 3,460,000 fish.
The forecast for king salmon to the Copper River is 64,000 Chinooks, in a range of 38,000 to 90,000 fish.
