Gov. Susana Martinez told eastern New Mexico dairy producers on Wednesday she is seeking a federal disaster declaration she hopes might help those who suffered financial losses during the Christmas weekend blizzard.
Funds may be available for producers, she said, “depending on how they view the industry. … We’re trying to figure out how can we work with them to get the greatest reimbursement for the loss of not only the cows but also the huge (milk) production that’s been lost.”
About three dozen area dairy producers gathered at the Rajen Dairy west of Clovis to share their stories of the storm and ask about financial assistance.
