The Mexican government is imposing new duties on most U.S. apple exports starting today in response to allegations of dumping, according to a ruling published Wednesday.
At 10.5 million boxes, Mexico was Washington’s largest export market by far in 2014, and new costs could cut into that market, industry experts told the Yakima Herald-Republic in November.
The decision stems from a government investigation of charges from Mexican apple growers that U.S. shippers sold apples in 2013 for less than the cost of production, a tactic known as dumping.
