Roughly 1,273 pounds of shrimp will be gobbled up at this weekends 52nd Fort Myers Beach Shrimp Festival.
Thats more than 48,000 shrimp if the festival sells out of its shrimp dinners as it usually does. About 20,000 people are expected to crowd the Beach throughout the weekend.
The last two years we had 1,100 to 1,200 pounds, and we have run out on Sunday by 4 p.m., said volunteer Ted Clifton, who oversees vendors at the annual bash.
With the exception of one booth selling fried shrimp, the shellfish will be boiled and sold for $10 a half-pound basket to raise money for the Fort Myers Beach Lions Club.
