The owners of Serpe and Sons Bakery, which was badly damaged in a Christmas Eve blaze, said Monday they plan to rebuild in their current Elsmere location. The fire at the iconic 1411 Kirkwood Highway business remains under investigation.
“It started in the oven room, and we don’t know more than that right now,” said Tony Serpe, who co-owns the bakery with brothers Richie, Tommy and Dominic, standing outside the burned-out brick and concrete shell.
A plywood sheet covered the entrance to the front of the business, where cream-topped pies still sat in a display case.
