World Cheese Contest Set For March 16-18

MADISON A record-sized international panel of expert judges has been assembled for the 2010 World Championship Cheese Contest, to be held March 16 18 at the Monona Terrace Convention Center in Madison, Wis.

The public is invited to view the judging of more than 2,300 expected cheeses and butters at the 28th biennial World Championship Cheese Contest between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on March 16 and March 17. The contest concludes with a championship round of judging from 8 to noon on March 18, with the World Champion, First and Second Runner Up announced at noon.

The World Championship Cheese Contest is a unique opportunity to view thousands of cheeses made in hundreds of styles from all over the world, said John Umhoefer, executive director of the Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association. Since 1957, we have been honored to host the worlds largest technical evaluation of cheese and butter right here in Wisconsin.

International judges are expected from Argentina, Australia, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, The Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom, joining 15 judges from eight U.S. States. The panel will evaluate each entry to award gold, silver and bronze medals in 80 Contest classes. In the Championship Round, all gold medal class winners are reevaluated by the entire judging team to choose World Champion, First and Second Runner Up.
