Lidl Breaks Ground On US Distribution Center In Mebane

In order for European grocery chain Lidl to implement its U.S. debut, it will rely on its regional headquarters and distribution center in Mebane.

The company broke ground Friday on the new facility in Alamance County; the company announced it chose to bring its operations to Mebane in July. Over the next few years, Lidl is expected to employ about 80 full-time staffers and 120 hourly workers at the center. The jobs include administrative and management positions.

Lidl does not yet have any operational U.S. stores, but recently filed plans in Raleigh and Cary show that the grocer is negotiating for a site in each city. Spokesman Will Harwood wouldn’t confirm specific store plans but said the company hopes to “have stores open no later than 2018 in the U.S.”
