A Growing Interest In Orchids

Orchids have a reputation. At first glance, the ornate blooms make the plants seem difficult to grow. But as Kay Stein has found, orchid growing is as high maintenance as you want it to be.
For the San Antonio grandmother of three, a fascination with growing orchids that began with a stay at Maui's Fairmont Orchid hotel turned into a hobby.
"I brought blooms back with me from the trip, but they didn't start flourishing until we built the greenhouse," Stein says.
Three years, 200 plants and a spacious greenhouse later, Stein is about as hardcore a grower as you can become without going commercial.
