Seattle's Bavarian Meats Celebrates Artisan Sausage Legacy

SEATTLE – Bavarian Meats, a third generation family-owned and operated artisan sausage business in Seattle, is pleased to announce that they have launched a new branding logo, website, social media presence and blog. For a longstanding company that has historically relied on word of mouth marketing, this is an important way to engage the next generation of sausage lovers arriving here in Seattle.

Co-owner Lyla Ridgeway points out that the branding efforts are a stamp of authenticity for customers in an increasingly competitive marketplace and explains they are still making their sausages according to their grandfather, Max Hofstatter's, strict guidelines. She says, "While mainstream sausage producers around the country might cut corners with inferior ingredients, Bavarian Meats stays true to Grandpa's mission, cutting meat by hand, using no fillers or MSG, and crafting, curing, and smoking our products right on site."

German-born Grandpa Max came here in 1933 and Bavarian Meats was founded in 1961, just in time for Grandpa to make a name for himself at the 1962 World's Fair. Stoked by entrepreneurial spirit, Grandpa grabbed a pushcart, loaded it with his hand-made German wieners, and created a culinary hit. Ever since, Bavarian Meats has held a soft spot in the hearts of Seattleites. Now owned by Lyla Ridgeway and her twin sister Lynn Hofstatter, the company produces fifty products and operates in Grandpa's small downtown processing facility, relying on a loyal staff of 13 longtime sausage makers.

With their original German delicatessen located in the Pike Place Market and a full line of sausages ranging from traditional pork and beef wieners to bratwurst and landjaegar, this company has withstood the test of time. Over the years, Grandpa Max developed forty different products and they continue to make and sell those to customers, restaurants, supermarkets and small purveyors. Ridgeway says, "Our grandfather's tradition still lives here. We haven't needed to do fancy marketing or rely on a sales team to sell our product all these years. The quality of our products is what sells. We've trusted that if we provided a quality product, our customers would be back…We want people to know that our family sausage making legacy continues. At Bavarian Meats, we are small, local and committed to quality."
