Oxford-Based Research Firm Gets First Commercial Order For All Natural Pesticide

Oxford-based Eden Research has received its first commercial order for its all-natural pesticide invention from a Kenyan firm just five months after the European Union approved its products.

The life sciences firm’s partner, Lachlan, gained approval in Kenya for the pesticide 3AEY, which has been in development for seven years and uses a combination of natural oils in a yeast pellet formula to tackle a destructive fungus that costs the agricultural industry almost £7bn a year.

Eden’s pesticide will be used initially to treat an area equivalent to the size of 1,250 rugby pitches, targeting vegetables such as peas, beans, cucumbers, squashes and melons, before it expands into the cut flower market.
