Richard “Dick” Rogers, founder of specialty foods importer and distributor The Rogers Collection, died Oct. 22 at age 73 in Portland, Maine.
Rogers worked in finance for many years before he began a career in the food industry working for the Otto Gerdau Company, an import-export firm owned by his in-laws. He managed the company’s cocoa import operations, and eventually became CEO.
In 1990 he founded Rogers International, known as the The Rogers Collection, which specializes in the import and distribution of responsibly sourced craft foods, including cheeses, olive oils, vinegars, and other condiments and seasonings. Ownership transitioned to his late nephew, Taylor Griffin, and his business partner, Ken Crerar, in 2003.
