ASMI has named International Director Alexa Tonkovich as the new Executive Director. The announcement came from ASMI Board Chairman Barry Collier, during a reception for attendees of ASMI’s annual ‘All Hands On Deck’ board meeting in Anchorage last week.
“I’m very excited to be leading ASMI,” said Tonkovich. “We certainly have some challenges facing us, but it’s also a very exciting time for Alaska Seafood both domestically and around the world."
As ASMI’s International Director, Tonkovich oversaw ASMI’s overseas marketing programs in nearly 21 countries with an $8 million dollar budget, helping develop markets for exports of Alaska seafood, which accounts for roughly 70% of the value of Alaska seafood harvested last year. She was instrumental in developing new markets for Alaska Seafood in Brazil, Southeast Asia and the Philippines. Tonkovich has a bachelor’s degree from Colgate University in East Asian Studies and she lives in Juneau, Alaska.
