Splendors Of Ikebana 2010 Honolulu, March 22-26

Hawaii’s top ikebana artists and students from seven schools throughout Oahu
will present Splendors of Ikebana 2010: Ikebana – Traditional to Modern, a
spring exhibition of colorful floral arrangements in all shapes and sizes, at
Honolulu Hale.

Exhibition visitors will see more than 50 floral arrangements that feature a
variety of exotic materials. Both traditional and contemporary ikebana-arranging
techniques will be showcased in the exhibit. Several exhibitors will create
arrangements that are more than ten-feet tall through the incorporation of
bamboo and palm trees.

The exhibition will also include ikebana-making demonstrations by master
teachers of the art. Mistuko Taura will lead a demonstration on the techniques
used by the Sogetsu School of ikebana on March 22. On March 23, Elaine Arita
will share techniques from the Ohara School of ikebana.

Splendors of Ikebana is presented by the Ikebana International Honolulu
Chapter 56 with support from the Mayor’s Office of Culture and the Arts and the
Hawaii Tourism Authority. This is the fifth consecutive year the exhibition is
being held at Honolulu Hale. Viewing is free and open to the public.
