Winco's new Southeast Portland location will add scores of jobs to the area as the company continues kicking the tires on a newer type of retail model.
Michael Read, a Boise, Idaho-based Winco spokesman, said the company plans to hire between 100 and 120 jobs at its new Portland location. The store will sit in the 55,000-square-foot space that used to hold a Food4Less, at 7979 S.E. Powell Blvd., until January 2013.
Typically, Winco's groceries occupy around 80,000 square feet.
"We've begun doing a few more of these smaller models, as infill projects, and they're performing well," Read said. "We're looking for infill opportunities that operate successfully without cannibalizing our other stores."
