Pelion, S.C.: WP Rawl, the premier grower, processor and shipper of leafy greens, welcomed Disney Channel to their headquarters this past July to film Katie’s Krops’ founder Katie Stagliano and fellow young gardeners. The “Make Your Mark” segment, part of Disney's Healthy Living Commitment that partners with parents to help makes healthier generations , was filmed during the third annual Katie’s Krops Camp sponsored by WP Rawl and began airing Friday, September 25 on Disney Channel.
The Emmy award-winning series, “Make Your Mark,” aimed at children between 6 and 14-years-old features inspirational stories of children from around the world. This year, Disney Channel selected Katie’s Krops, a non-profit empowering kids to plant vegetable gardens and donate the harvest to the underserved in their communities, as one of the featured segments.
Katie’s ongoing relationship with Disney dates back to 2011 when Disney Channel featured her in Disney’s Friends for Change, a series that highlighted kids making a difference while encouraging others to do the same.
In 2008, then 9-year-old Stagliano grew a 40 pound cabbage in her backyard. She donated it to a soup kitchen where it help to fed 275 people. Moved by the experience, she started Katie's Krops, which currently funds 83 youth-run gardens in 30 states from which the fresh harvest is donated to the underserved.
“We thoroughly enjoyed hosting Disney Channel at this year’s camp and look forward to seeing ‘Make Your Mark’ come to life,” said Ashley Rawl, vice president of sales, marketing and product development. “Over the past three years, we have had the pleasure of hosting over 40 Katie’s Krops growers. Katie is just as much an inspiration to these growers as she is to us and we feel so proud to be able to support her.”
The Katie’s Krops segment is available on WP Rawl’s YouTube Channel and Disney.com.
