A&P’s bankruptcy, announced in July, will force the closure of more than 100 supermarkets across the tri-state area, including 13 in Bergen County.
A massive transition among superstore brands is expected in the coming months. Some A&Ps have found bidders in Acme and Stop & Shop, while others may be vacated. But the question remains: In the interim, what’s a local food shopper to do?
That’s what’s occurred to many in Mahwah, Ramsey and Midland Park, each home to an A&P or its subsidiary, Pathmark. All have existed since at least the mid-90s, long enough for residents to have developed an affinity for them for the quality of their products, prices, or mere convenience.
