Winnipeg Is The Baron Of Bacon

MOVE over, Slurpees, Winnipeg is also the Bacon Capital of Canada.

According to Manitoba Pork, more bacon is processed in Winnipeg than in any other city in Canada. Leading the way is Maple Leaf Foods, which operates the largest bacon-processing facility in the country on Lagimodiere Boulevard.

The 25,000-square-metre plant produces more than 25 million kilograms of bacon each year. In a bit of an odd comparison, Manitoba Pork said that's enough to fill more than "13 Olympic-sized swimming pools."

"People forget that pork is the most popular meat in the world," said Andrew Dickson, general manager of Manitoba Pork.
