NFI Issues Statement On 2015 State Department Trafficking In Persons Report

WASHINGTON, DC — The National Fisheries Institute (NFI) has zero tolerance for labor abuses.

Our member companies continue to review, monitor and audit their supply chains to safeguard against the abhorrent practices alleged in today’s Trafficking In Persons (TIP) report. NFI recognizes the challenges associated with labor in some areas of the seafood sector, as well as the consistent commitment by our members to take on those challenges. Likewise, we remain concentrated on pushing governments to bolster enforcement. It is enforcement that will have the most impact to help victims, prosecute criminals and deter others.

When credible leads are presented by the seafood community, journalists, witnesses and or alleged victims, NFI believes swift, targeted, thorough investigation and action is the blueprint for governments and industry.
