BURLINGTON, Vt. – While milk distributors have been dumping product by the truckload, an effort to pump up donations is wrapping up.
Price Chopper teamed with food banks across the Northeast including in Vermont to encourage shoppers to donate in an effort to get more milk to the hungry.
Shoppers pick up a voucher in the milk aisle, pay either $2 or $4 at the register, and that voucher is ultimately passed on to a needy family in the area.
The low wholesale price of milk has led many of the distributors to dump it rather than lose money by bringing it to market.
