The Triangle's Grocery Stores Ranked By Market Share

Walmart and Food Lion kept their No. 1 and No. 2 spots atop the Triangle-area grocery market last year, but the introduction of several new brands seeking out locations in the region are already threatening a shift in power.

"The grocery competition in our market is insane right now," said Charlie Coyne, director of retail services at CBRE-Raleigh, in speaking to members of the Midtown Raleigh Alliance at an event Thursday.

Coyne noted that while Publix Super Markets has been a little slower out of the gate in its expansion plans in the Triangle, it does have one store in Cary, two more stores opening by 2016 in Cary and in Wake Forest, and six or eight more in the pipeline.
