A mediation session aimed at reaching an agreement for several processors seeking certification of their wild Alaska salmon through a certification held by a separate group of processors has failed.
The announcement came June 9 from Stefanie Moreland, of Trident Seafoods, who said the parties were unable to reach a certificate sharing agreement through mediation. Details of the mediation proceedings are confidential, she said.
The Marine Stewardship Council certificate is held by the Alaska Seafood Processors Association, whose members include Silver Bay Seafoods, and Copper River Seafoods, among others. ASPA acquired its certification after several other processors opted out of the MSC sustainability certification program for a similar one offered through the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute.
