Hara To Help Reduce Safeway’s Carbon Footprint

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. — Hara, a leading provider of environmental and energy management software, today announced that Safeway Inc. (NASDAQ:SWY), a Fortune 50 company and one of the largest food and drug retailers in North America, has selected Hara to help it identify and implement economic measures to reduce its energy usage and carbon footprint. Safeway is in the initial stages of deploying Hara Environmental and Energy Management (EEM) to consolidate energy and environmental data onto a single platform and establish an environmental system of record.

Hara offers Safeway an environmental and energy management solution that provides a centralized platform to collect, monitor and manage energy costs, greenhouse gas emissions, forecasting, modeling and market information across its stores, manufacturing distribution centers and fuel stations. Hara EEM will also help Safeway achieve a consolidated view of its companywide utility spending on an automated basis. In addition, Haras solution will enable the company to easily syndicate and share best practices across its facilities nationwide.

We have a long history of reducing our energy costs through innovative supply arrangements and implementation of energy efficiency projects. We believe that by implementing the right tools, we will be well positioned to make significant progress towards our goals, said Joe Pettus, senior vice president of fuel and energy at Safeway. Hara adds value by giving us not only reliable insight into the size and makeup of our energy usage and carbon footprint, but also a solid roadmap for achieving further cost reductions and better carbon management.

Hara gives companies and organizations the opportunity to turn carbon liability into a competitive advantage by providing a holistic look at their entire organizational metabolism and helping them commit to sustainability in a way that is meaningful to their business and the environment, said Amit Chatterjee, CEO and co-founder of Hara. A leading retailer with operations the scale of Safeways is poised to make a real impact across its broad footprint and we are thrilled to offer a solution that will enable them to define and reach their goals.
