FOLSOM, Calif. — After a long winter break, chefs and foodies alike are excitedly awaiting the arrival of some of the world’s best-tasting salmon – the nutritious and superior California King salmon. In fact, based on a number of factors, this season is expected to be one of the best yet.
“We are forecasting around 154,300 Chinook salmon will be caught during the 2015 California King salmon commercial season,” said David Goldenberg, chief executive officer of the California Salmon Council. “And in the next few days, California King salmon lovers everywhere will finally be able to enjoy some of the very best-tasting salmon there is,” he added.
California is the leading state for providing wild King salmon, which are caught by dedicated fishermen on barbless hooks from May through September. Featured at local grocery stores, fish markets and fine restaurants, these fresh, wild salmon are so renowned because of their firm texture and robust flavor – in addition to containing higher levels of Omega-3 fatty acids than other salmon varieties. Caught locally off California’s coast, California’s King salmon also provide consumers with a sustainable, responsible option.
“Our hardworking fleet of fisherman have just set out into the Pacific to start the 2015 season, so we are anticipating our first returns sometime early next week,” said Goldenberg.
