Middlesex, VT's Red Hen Baking Honored By President Obama

MIDDLESEX — Red Hen Baking owner Randy George went to the White House on Thursday to be honored by President Barack Obama for the Champions of Change program.

The theme this time around for the annual event was recognizing people who support working women. George and his wife were nominated for their progressive treatment of workers at their wholesale organic bread bakery on Route 2 in Middlesex.

The White House reached out to agencies across the country to find people worthy of the recognition, including the Vermont division of the Main Street Alliance organization, which is a national network of state-based small business coalitions. State Director Lindsay DesLauriers nominated George and his wife, Liza Cain, who launched Red Hen Baking 16 years ago.
