It’s Not Mardi Gras Without King Cake

Mardi Gras revelers can have everything from flambeaux to masked balls, but no
celebration is complete without the traditional Mardi Gras king cake.

A baked tradition brought to New Orleans around the 1870s by French settlers,
the king cake is a tasty treat with a colorful past.

“It’s believed to have originated in 12th century France, celebrating the three
wise men,” Sherry Hardy, owner of Sherry’s Cake Shop said.

The origins of the cake are rumored to stem from the religious feast of
Epiphany, celebrated around the Christmas season.
