Chicago, Illinois – Over 1,200 foodies mixed and mingled with more than 100 of Chicago’s most dynamic entertainers, chefs, and innovators at the 10th Annual For the Love of Chocolate Gala on Saturday, February 28. The event brought back the days of peace and love on four floors of the Union League Club of Chicago while raising scholarship money for students of The French Pastry School of Kennedy-King College at City Colleges of Chicago.
Upon entering the venue, guests were greeted with cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, and a live band playing the popular tunes of The Beatles while groupies swooned, making the British Invasion theme complete. A groovy photo booth with a life-size reproduction of a Volkswagen van was also set up giving attendees a chance to create their own classic VW ad images.
Floor after floor was packed with entertainment, food, and beverages. Guests, many dressed as British mod rockers, Mad Men characters, and glam disco divas, sampled the evening’s delights. Highlights included: a Studio 54 dance floor with live music by The Chicago Catz; tables overflowing with sweet and savory food from over 100 chef participants; a Kaleidoscope Cake Café featuring Chicago cake designers paired with sparkling wine vintners from France; a DJ LP library and listening station; the mind-altering Psychedelic Lounge where guests could mellow to sitar music while sampling chocolates and other desserts; beautiful art and food photography displays, and the amazing athleticism of local roller skaters and breakdancers.
Thanks to all of the attendees, participants, volunteers, and the incredible sponsors of For the Love of Chocolate, the foundation raised over $175,000. Proceeds will go to funding student scholarships for The French Pastry School’s L’Art de la Pâtisserie and L’Art du Gâteau programs.
