WASHINGTON, DC – As the American Bakers Association (ABA) kicks off its 2015 Convention next month with a focus on “The Power of Baking,” a significant element will be the discussion on leadership led by Dr. Ben Carson.
On March 30, Dr. Carson, one of the nation’s foremost physicians and scientists, will take the stage at the Allied Trades of the Baking Industry Leadership Breakfast to address “The Power of Leadership.” Outlining his personal formula for success, Dr. Carson will demonstrate that maintaining discipline and exhibiting good character are at the core of achieving true success on every level – while emphasizing the importance of using personal success to benefit others.
“We are honored to have Dr. Carson join us for this important dialogue,” said Robb MacKie, ABA President and CEO. “His work, both in the medical field and with the Carson Scholars Fund, is an example to us all of the power of leadership. I believe our attendees will find his story truly inspiring.”
In his presentation, Dr. Carson will take an inspirational look at the philosophy that helped him meet and overcome life's obstacles. He will also illustrate the importance of risk taking in a position of leadership, drawing upon his experience as the former director of pediatric neurosurgery at an internationally renowned medical center where he faced many challenging and risky cases every week.
Dr. Carson is an emeritus professor of neurosurgery, oncology, plastic surgery, and pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, where he directed pediatric neurosurgery at the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center for 39 years. He holds more than 60 honorary doctorate degrees and has received literally hundreds of awards and citations. In 2001, Dr. Carson was named by CNN and TIME magazine as one of the nation’s 20 foremost physicians and scientists. That same year, he was selected by the Library of Congress as one of 89 "Living Legends" on the occasion of its 200th anniversary. He is also the recipient of the 2006 Spingarn Medal which is the highest honor bestowed by the NAACP. His first four books, Gifted Hands, THINK BIG, The Big Picture, and Take the Risk: Learning to Identify, Choose and Live with Acceptable Risk (January, 2008), provide inspiration and insight for leading a successful life; a fifth book, America The Beautiful: Rediscovering What Made This Nation Great, was released in early 2012 and made The New York Times Best Seller List in 2013. His sixth book, One Nation: What We Can All Do To Save America’s Future was released on May 20, 2014 and has also made The New York Times Best Seller List.
