PORTLAND, MAINE — Oakhurst, northern New England’s leading dairy brand, announced it is donating $21,257 to The Salvation Army of Northern New England. This is the company’s largest donation in the 15 years since beginning its annual Egg Nog fundraising effort. Oakhurst has donated a portion of its annual Egg Nog sales — five cents for every container sold during the holiday season — to The Salvation Army since 1999. The company reports that this year’s milestone means that Oakhurst has provided more than $260,000 in total support from this fundraising tradition. Bill Bennett of Oakhurst presented a check for this year’s donation to The Salvation Army on January 29th at 10 a.m. at the organization’s Portland headquarters located at 299 Cumberland Avenue.
“Once again Oakhurst Dairy has demonstrated a strong commitment to charitable organizations," said The Salvation Army Divisional Commander Major James LaBossiere. "The Salvation Army is truly blessed by their support. The funds raised through the Egg Nog promotion helps us provide practical assistance and programming for children and adults throughout the Northern New England region."
The funds raised for The Salvation Army of Northern New England will be divided between its 22 Corps Community Centers across Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont. The Salvation Army Massachusetts Division will also receive a portion of funds raised. The support will be used to supply meals, after-school tutoring, recreational activities and shelter for those in need.
“Each year, we look forward to Egg Nog season because it’s such a special time of year and because we know we’ll be raising much needed funds for The Salvation Army,” said Bill Bennett of Oakhurst. “Reaching this milestone — our biggest donation ever — is exciting and I know it will benefit so many New England families.”
Bennett continued: “We want to thank everyone who purchased and enjoyed our Egg Nog this past holiday season because without them we wouldn’t be able to make this record-breaking donation to The Salvation Army.”
Each holiday season, Oakhurst makes several Egg Nog flavors including is traditional and Light Egg Nog and its newest flavors Chocolate Nog and Buttered Rum Egg Nog. All of the company’s Egg Nog is made with milk from Maine dairy farms.
