Walmart’s introduction of its Neighborhood Market stores has been so successful that the company is looking for more locations in Nebraska, possibly including Lincoln and Omaha, a Walmart official told real estate brokers Thursday in Omaha.
The move, by one of the most rapidly expanding retailers in Omaha, would add to an already highly competitive grocery market. It’s a market that is entering a period of consolidation, said Rick Quinlevan, president of Lerner Brokerage Services.
“Our grocery market has been in considerable turmoil the last five to seven years,” he said Thursday, addressing brokers and retailers at the International Council of Shopping Centers’ annual Heartland States Idea Exchange and Alliance Program.
