The University of Hawai‘i Pacific Business Center Program is aiming to create a multibillion-dollar industry by promoting and expanding breadfruit (ulu) throughout the Pacific, the Star-Advertiser reported.
Failautusi Avegalio Jr., the director of the program's Pacific Regional Breadfruit Initiative, said breadfruit "has the potential to to exceed any other product in the Pacific or the world," according to the report.
Since the fruit is gluten-free, the plan for the fruit is to "join the growing worldwide gluten-free and health food product market," the report said.
