Ciruli Bros. Remembers Friend & Produce Industry Veteran Jim Bensch

James William Bensch, age 71, of Houston died of heart complications on Tuesday, December 9, 2014.  He is survived by his wife Ginger and five children: Jerri, Chris, Courtney, Cody, and Caty, as well as five grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Kathy, loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Jim spent most of his adult life in Houston, TX where he worked as a produce broker for close to 45 years.  In 1965, he started his produce career in Springfield, IL working for Tom Lange Company. In the mid-1970s, he moved to Houston, TX to conquer the local produce market. Throughout his career, he opened his own company Benchmark Brokerage in addition to working for Cal Sierra and PacificWest.

Throughout his career, he made many friends and foes, whom he cherished (you know who you are). Many folks in this industry became a part of his family.

He retired in 2011, then devoting his time to golfing, cooking, and wine pairing.
