QUEBEC — Agriculture Minister Pierre Paradis has ordered a review of regulations in the wake of a “best before” meat-packaging scandal.
Describing as “troubling” a Radio-Canada hidden camera investigation showing butchers breaking rules to extend the shelf life of meats, Paradis said it’s clear cheating has been going on despite efforts to control it.
“We will take the necessary steps,” a furious Paradis told reporters. “Our producers are producing quality meats. The consumer has the right to eat quality produce.
