Just a month after making its Brooklyn, N.Y., debut, AmazonFresh opened a second east coast beachhead in Philadelphia.
The grocery-delivery service debuted in the Center City district of Philadelphia. As with the New York launch, Fresh will be available in Philadelphia only to members of Amazon’s $99-a-year Prime service, which offers two-day shipping at no extra charge. Those customers won’t have to pay any additional membership fees through the end of the year.
Starting in January, Philadelphia Fresh customers will have to pay $299 a year to use the service, the same price Amazon charges in New York, as well as the California markets it serves. Amazon has never charged its Fresh customers in Seattle a membership fee in the seven years it has offered the service here.
