Carolina Premium Foods, a Moore County company establishing an antibiotic free chicken processing plant at the former Townsend Chicken Facility in Siler City, will begin expanding into the second phase of production in January.
The plant currently employs 20 people since it started in October. It will soon be able to retrofit 90,500 square feet of processing facility to expand operations to maximum planned capacity of nearly 1 million birds per week. The company plans to employ 700 people by next summer.
The pricing schedule listed the site for $3.4 million, part of which would go toward renovation and equipment purchase and installation. According to CPF Spokesperson Don Watson, Jim Anthony of AACRE Properties, Inc. and Colliers International Raleigh-Durham "is anticipating finalizing the purchase of the Phase 2 facilities before the end of the year."
